Agent-based modeling in ArcGIS

Anyone who is heavy user of ArcGIS and wants to explore how to create agent-based models within it should check out the new Agent-Analyst  book from ESRI.

After skimming through the chapters it looks like a great resource for teachers or individuals wishing to create geographically explicit agent-based models. There are a number of step-by-step exercises which show you how one can use points, polygons and rasters to create agent-based models. Also there is a discussion on how to create agents with simple behaviors.

More information including the book, software and data can be downloaded from http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/agent-analyst/

Hi there,
I tried to install the agent analyst into my arcgis environment, but fail every time I open it on the arc toolbox. I followed the exact step on the book about the installation, but when I open the toolbox (agent analyst) everything (arcmap) just closed down.
I use arcgis 10.1 instead 10 as they mentioned in the book.
I could not isolate the problem, I don't know if the problem comes from the repastpy or the arcgis.

did you have any issues install/using it? would highly appreciated it if you could share your knowledge on repastpy installation stages.

thanks

Hi,

I only installed agent analyst when it first came out, a number of years ago and it was relatively easy if you have the right version of ArcGIS and set all the other things up currently. But that said it was a number of years ago.

Hi Ali, I have posted your comment and hopefully someone reading the post can help. On a side note MASON and GeoMason can also do this but its a Java based environment.
