Vermont Rural Land simulation

Following on from our previous post about sketch planning, we stumbled upon the YouTube movie below. It shows the use of CommunityViz to create the Vermont Rural Land simulation. The model explores how individual decisions though the use of ABM effect land use in the future. Furthermore it demonstrates how demographic and economic data can be incorporated into the simulation process and how future land uses can be changed with different land use policies through ‘what if’ styles of experiments.

Actually, this was a promotional video made in 1996 by Coopers and Lybrand Consulting, which was intended to show how CommunityViz (which didn't have that name at the time) might be built. Ultimately, CommunityViz was built and included Policy Simulator, its agent-based component.

For what its worth, I produced the video while at C&L Consulting, and was the designer and technical lead of the Policy Simulator project.
