Flooding and Agent-based models

In the news, there are often reports on flooding impacting communities around the world such as the current floods in Australia. Wondering what agent-based models exisit of floods I came across a rather nice paper and model by Dawson et al (2011) entitled "An Agent-based Model for Risk-based Flood Incident Management" which describes the coupling of ABM to a raster cell flood model. The  movie below shows the basic functioning of the model.

Its always nice when authors provide the model along with the paper, in this case the model can be found here

The main methodology and structure of the model resemble an earlier work by Assaf and Hartford (2002) on the development of the "Life Safety Model"

which was presented in more details in Assaf (2011) (http://ascelibrary.org/doi/abs/10.1061/(ASCE)NH.1527-6996.0000033) yet the authors did not make any reference to this earlier pioneering work.

Hi, thanks for the comment.

Thanks Andrew for posting my comments. It is quite frustrating to see that no credit is given to the work I started back in 1996 and led to the development of the Life Safety Model.
